Person Struck By Lirr Train

Regular train service has returned to the Long Island Railroad after a person was struck by a train in Nassau County.

The incident took place around 11:40 a.m., Monday, May 24, when the unauthorized person on the track near Plandome was hit by the train, said the LIRR on Twitter.

There were about 60 customers onboard the train when the incident took place, LIRR officials said. 

Buses were ordered to transport commuters.

The strike suspended service for up to two hours on the Port Washington branch in both directions between Great Neck and Port Washington, the LIRR said.

Service was restored around 2:38 p.m., officials said.

LIRR officials did not say if the person was a man or woman or release details surrounding the incident, including the person's condition.
